If we listen accurately all the ten Commandments of the Law, (excepting the sixth)all of them begin with “You shall not”… so we can securely say that the Law is essentialy not a prescritive word, but a descriptive word; The Law describes what God wants to turn us on: persons that “shall not kill”, and so on…
So, if the Sin is a relational problem and not a behavioral question, why do we suppose that the Law points to what we do, and not to WHAT WE WILL BE at God’s direction and guide?

That is my greater concern nowadays… to proclaim WHO God is in fact, means the beginning of the solution for the distance from Jesus chosen by the Human Being… so if we say that the Law orders me what to do and not “show me what God will turn me on”, seems that the message of Gospel has no news but what other false religions has spoken along all these six thousand years of Human’s Sin…

Thanks for the opportunity and may God be with you all!

Gil, so glad to see you here. Thanks for leaving a comment.
I find evidence that you are indeed correct, the 10 commandments are not 10 threats, but 10 promises. In fact, they start with the Lord saying, “I am the Lord Your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.”

God is saying, “I’ve brought you out, I’ve delivered you, I’ve saved you. Therefore, as saved, as delivered, as people who are OUT OF slavery, you will not do these things you used to back in slavery. Once you understand what I did, there’s no earthly reason to dishonor me or your fellow neighbor”.
The problem is humanity forgets really quickly what the Lord has done and we fall right back down.

The other question goes along with the reason why He had to say that to begin with, for example, if every morning at breakfast, I tell my wife, “thou shalt not commit adultery today, honey”… isn’t that sick? Just the fact that I’m having to say those words demonstrate there’s something really wrong going on… So that’s why God has to spell out the issue and let us know we shouldn’t do that.

Therefore, the language in what God had to talk about the law was slave language, but Christ said that LOVE is the summary of the law. When you learn how to love, you learn the essence and you don’t have to worry about ordering you not to do those things, because you won’t want to do that anyways, toward God and toward humanity.

Remember that God has told us, “love covers a multitude of sins.”, not the law, but love. Love is the answer.

    Peace,

    Abraços.
