If we allow the words of Christ to frame our picture of God, we must accept that God is just like Jesus, full of love, compassion, mercy, who was never angry or vengeful toward sinners, but who was crying with them, healing them and offering them a place in the kingdom next to Him and the Father.
Christ makes the logical things of this world illogical, and the crazy things are what His kingdom is all about. Earthly kings come with pomp, majesty and power; violence, conquest and death to enemies. The heavenly King came with humbleness, meekness and helplessness; freedom, peace and love to enemies.
“Men of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Now what you worship as something unknown I am going to proclaim to you.
